QIGONG

Qigong with Aimee

Qigong is an ancient Chinese practice that integrates gentle movement, breathing techniques, and focused meditation to cultivate and balance the body’s vital energy, which is known as "qi." “Gong” means work or skill; thus the term Qigong can be translated as meaning the skill or practice of working with and cultivating one’s vital energy. Qigong is composed of slow, deliberate movements combined with mindful breathing and intention, promoting harmony between the mind and body. The benefits of qigong include improved physical health, increased flexibility and strength, reduced stress, enhanced mental clarity, and overall emotional well-being.

I first discovered this ancient healing practice when I was getting my Master’s degree in Chinese Medicine at Five Branches University, and had taken qigong classes there as part of the core curriculum (on a side note, Qigong is actually one of the five branches of Chinese Medicine, along with acupuncture, herbs, nutrition, and bodywork!). But I really got passionate about Qigong when I did the Living Aligned teacher training program with Suzannah Stason, based in San Francisco. As I dove more deeply into the tradition and practice of Qigong in this nine-month intensive, my love and appreciation for this ancient practice grew exponentially. As a lifelong dancer and meditator, I loved that there was a healing practice (rooted in the medicine I was already practicing) that used the three pillars of intentional movement, breath, and meditation. I also loved that I could empower people in their own healing, by teaching them a practice they could do at home for continued benefits off the treatment table.

In my healing practice there are two ways in which people can work with me to learn this ancient art of self-healing. One is in a private 1:1 session, in which I teach you a protocol of specific Qigong exercises based on your unique health goals and concerns. In this 45 minute private session you will be taught these exercises so that you can take them home and practice them regularly to support your healing journey. You will also be provided with a video of the exercises to make home practice easier.

The other way you can study Qigong with me is through group classes. Offered either on Zoom or in-person, group classes are an excellent way to learn a specific style or form of Qigong, with the added healing benefit of community connection. To learn more about when my next Qigong class series will take place, you can sign up for my newsletter or email me directly.

  • A Qigong Testimonial

"I have to start out by saying that I was skeptical about Qigong. I have been a go-for-it person my whole life and have been dedicated to vigorous physical workouts, such as dance, hiking, and advanced yoga, in order to maintain my weight and health. So, when Aimee asked me to join her introductory Qigong class I participated mostly out of curiosity, expecting that it wouldn't be a good fit for me.

What I learned from Aimee's class is that Qigong is a breath-focused martial arts training with a series of physical forms that can be practiced to improve circulation, balance, and mental focus. I surprised myself by absolutely loving it. Afterward I felt energized, oxygenated, and significantly more physically challenged by the practice than I had anticipated. My body has changed as I have gotten older, and Qigong fit my "new normal", including the repercussions from former injuries from my go-for-it lifestyle.”

“In all the world nothing is more pliant than water.
And yet it has no equal in resiliency against that which is hard. It cannot be changed by anything.
That which is weak conquers that which is strong; that which is soft conquers that which is hard.”
